Al Marden anticipated some of Thurston's discoveries by some years (before many of the people cited in this book were born), and this book provides a very valuable survey of the subject from the "Ahlfors School" perspective (for example, there is a lot more analysis and a lot more 2x2 matrices than are customary in Thurston's more geometric work). The book provided a rapid and very lucid introduction to the subject -- it is probably a good idea to study it at the same time as Hyperbolic Manifolds and Discrete Groups (Modern Birkhäuser Classics)Product details
